“Mariko”, besides being a common
Japanese female name
similar to Mary or Maria,
happens also to be the name of
Wolverine’s girlfriend in Japan,
A.K.A. The Scarlet Samurai!

George’s Mixes is a local company
based in Berlin, Maryland next to Ocean City.
Their Bloody Mary Mix is legendary!

Mix well,
1.5 fl. oz. Umai! Shochu
4.5 fl. oz. George’s Mild Bloody Mary Mix
ice.

Garnish!
If you have shiso leaf that would be cool.
If you have wasabi root, you’re a black belt!

Chuhai (“chew-high”; a shochu highball)
is the most common way shochu is served in Japan.
If you’re not drinking beer in a restaurant in Japan,
you’re probably having a chuhai!

In a highball glass full of ice
add 1.5 fl. oz. of Umai! Shochu
Fill to the top with 7-Up or Sprite (4.5 oz).

If you make this drink with club soda or sparkling water,
and squeeze two or three lemon wedges on top.
That’s a Fresh Chuhai! 58 calories for a full drink,
half the calories of a standard 5 oz. glass of wine!

Other flavors work great, too, like
lime, grapefruit, peach, pomegranate…
